A Tribute to Superstar Dilip Kumar: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has passed away at the age of 98. Furthermore, the death of megastar Dilip Kumar on Wednesday has shocked and saddened the entire Indian film industry. Indeed, Dilip Kumar Ji has left a void in cinema as well as a massive body of work for future filmmakers and actors to learn from. Moreover, Dilip Kumar had been suffering from health problems for several months. He died at Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital on 07th July 2021. “He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am,” Dr. Jalil Parkar, who had been treating Dilip Kumar, told sources.

His family friend Faisal Farooqui confirms the news of the actor’s death on Twitter. “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return,” read Farooqui’s tweet via Dilip Kumar’s official Twitter handle.

Dilip Kumar was born on December 11, 1922, at his family home in Peshawar’s Qissa Khawani Bazaar, British India, as one of twelve children to Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan and his wife Ayesha Begum. His father was a fruit merchant, and he was named Mohammad Yusuf Khan.

Kumar attended Barnes School in Deolali, Nashik. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Raj Kapoor, his childhood friend and later film industry colleague. Dilip Kumar was an Indian film producer and actor. Moreover, he is popular for his work in Hindi (Bollywood) cinema. He popular as the “Tragedy King” and “The First Khan,” and is famous for introducing a distinct method of acting technique to the cinema. Kumar holds the record for the most Filmfare Awards for Best Actor wins, and he was also the first recipient of the award.

Dilip Kumar made his acting debut in the 1944 film Jwar Bhata, produced by Bombay Talkies. Kumar Ji appeared in over 65 films during his five-decade career. The film legend Dilip Kumar is popular for his roles in the romantic Andaz (1949), the popular movie Aan (1952), the drama movie Daag (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the most popular and epic historical film Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the social dacoit crime drama Gunga Jamuna (1961), and the comedy Ram Aur Shyam (1967).

Dilip Kumar took a five-year break from acting in 1976. Moreover, he came back with a character role in Kranti (1981). Furthermore, he continued his career playing leading roles in films such as Shakti (1982), Mashaal (1984), Karma (1986), and Saudagar (1991). In 1980, Kumar was the Sheriff of Mumbai (an honorary position). Kumar was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. The Government of Andhra Pradesh presented Kumar with the NTR National Award, 1997. In 1998, the Government of Pakistan bestowed upon Kumar the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civilian award. In 2009, Dilip Kumar received the CNN-IBN Lifetime Achievement Award.

From India’s independence to the late 2010s, Kumar held the record for having the most box office grossing films (9), until Salman Khan broke his record by delivering 10 films. Further, when adjusted for inflation, his historical film Mughal-E-Azam is the highest-grossing film in India (equivalent to 2000 crores in 2015).

President of India Ram Nath Kovind tweeted: “Dilip Kumar summarised in himself a history of emerging India. The thespian’s charm transcended all boundaries, and he was loved across the subcontinent. With his demise, an era ends. Dilip Saab will live forever in the heart of India. Condolences to family and countless fans.”

Furthermore, actor Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, ” T 3958 – An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written, it shall always be ‘before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar’ .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss .. Deeply saddened …”

Furthermore, actor Anil Kapoor shared a series of pictures with Dilip Kumar and wrote on Instagram, “Our world is a little less bright today because one of our brightest stars has left us for the heavens. Dilip Sahab was very close to my father and I had the tremendous honor of sharing screen space with him in 3 of my most memorable films…He was and will always be the finest & greatest actor of our industry for me…he has inspired generations of artists. Rest in peace Dilip Sahab. You remain in our minds and hearts forever…”

5) NAYA DAUR (1957)

The romantic drama film, directed by BR Chopra, stars Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala, with Ajit Khan and Jeevan in supporting roles. The plot revolves around two best friends, Shankar (Dilip Kumar) and Krishna (Ajit Khan), who fall in love with the same woman, Rajni (Vyjayanthimala). For his high-octane performance in the film, Dilip Kumar won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
