Maharashtra’s coronavirus case tally rose to 1,80,298 on Wednesday with the addition of 5,537 new patients while the death toll mounted by 198 to 8,053, the state health department said.
Active cases in Maharashtra are 99,202 and total patients discharged so far are 1,36,985. 223 more deaths in the last 24 hours take the state’s death toll to 10,116 so far.
The state’s capital, Mumbai, reported 1,308 new cases today taking its overall tally to 91,547.
With 39 new deaths reported today, Mumbai’s death toll stands at 5,241. The number of active cases in Mumbai are at 22,779 and 63,431 patients have recovered so far, including 1,497 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, lockdown has been extended in suburban Navi Mumbai till 19 July. The city was to be under lockdown during 3-13 July.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to conduct rapid antigen detection tests for diagnosis of Covid-19 after a couple of days, a top official told PTI.
He said the move will decrease the burden on the National Institute of Virology (NIV) and other laboratories.
With as many as 2,38,461 COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,30,261) and Delhi (1,09,140).
Maharashtra reported a record 7,862 new cases on Friday, while Tamil Nadu recorded 3,680 new infections.
