Vanish Mode: After adding disappearing message features on WhatsApp, Facebook has brought a similar feature on Messenger and Instagram apps called Vanish Mode. Facebook’s Messenger and Instagram now has the Vanish Mode of conversation. This is the same as Snapchat’s features, with a big difference: Vanish Mode won’t be the default feature of chats, and the users will need to activate it. Messages sent with the Vanish Mode turned on automatically disappear after they are seen and you can leave the chat.
The Vanish mode in terms of functionality does almost the same thing as Whatsapp Disappearing Messages, however, the approach between the two is entirely different. Whatsapp messages remain in the chat for almost 7 days while the Vanish mode messages disappear instantly. Also, Vanish Mode would work only with friends.

Alert For Screenshots
In the Vanish Mode setting, in case any user attempts to take a screenshot of any chat, then the other user will be alerted, and notified. This is again a Snapchat feature. In case any user reports any chat, then the messages and images/gifs shared will be available for an hour, only for Facebook or Instagram to check. Vanish mode messages in the chat disappear instantly.
How to enable Vanish mode in Instagram
Step 1: Open the Instagram application on your device.
Step 2: Tap the ‘direct or messenger’ icon on the top right.
Step 3: Open any chat window you wish to enable the vanish mode for.
Step 4: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to enable vanish mode.
After you have turned on the Vanish mode, all the read messages will vanish.
- If you wish to disable the vanish mode, then open the chat window you have enabled the vanish mode for.
- Then, swipe up from the bottom screen again or tap ‘turn off vanish mode’ on the top of the chat window to turn off the vanish mode.
Note: If you leave the chat window, the vanish mode will also be turned off.
