Luggage Security Alarm using IoT
Luggage Security Alarm using IoT: Abstract— Nowadays security is becoming an important issue everywhere. Security is more necessary now as the possibilities of intrusion are increasing on a daily basis. In this proposed project, a security system has been designed that has special features, which makes the person aware of their luggage being stolen or lost. The plan was to design a luggage security system using Arduino. Arduino Uno is used in the project, which is considered as one of the most modern programmable devices. If the luggage is lost/stolen, a voice call will be instantly placed to the specified number by the user, which makes it a fully secured anti-theft system. The system consists of a GSM module which can be used to send a specific message or a voice call to the specified number, the gsm module is interfaced with Arduino Uno. The device also has two LEDs, if the luggage is safe then green led will glow, and if the luggage is stolen then red led will glow. The project is stimulated on software, for a hardware project a buzzer will be used for the instant reaction of the user.

1. Introduction
The luggage security system is designed to alert the user about luggage, which gets lost or stolen from the public and other places. As people travel, there is always a risk of theft of the luggage. Loss of luggage can happen with anyone irrespective of the circumstances and conditions. Luggage and bags with important documents or precious things can be lost or theft with which people can lose their important material. Generally, it is seen that people get robbed in public areas like railway stations, bus stands, and other public and private areas. Also, people can even forget their luggage and bags which can have important and necessary things. So it is very necessary to get an alert in case of loss and theft. IoT allows the objects to be sensed and controlled from a remote access point, which does the integration of computers with the physical world which improves financial benefit, accuracy, and efficiency. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of objects which is used to collect and exchange information. Nowadays security is becoming an important issue everywhere. A. Luggage Tracking System using IOT [1]
The luggage tracking system is designed to track the luggage and bags which get lost or stolen from the public and other areas. As people travel, there is always a risk of theft of the luggage and bags which is where the proposed system comes into account. The luggage tracking system works on an alarming basis where an alarm is set up with the Arduino Uno board and a GPS module. Also, the alarm is turned on as soon as the bag is stolen and goes outside a particular range. Furthermore, a map is created through which we can track the location of the bag as it moves, as the markers are dropped which in a way gives us the location of the bag as it moves away from the owner. In this, the IoT components are being used like Arduino Board and a GPS Module in order to track the bag and a frontend or mobile application is created in order to monitor. In this, a map has been developed using the google geolocation API, which would help us to identify the location of the luggage. The map shows the location of the person and also the message flags. Also, the markers dropped would let us know the exact location of the bag, as the markers keep on increasing with the movement of the bag which is tracked through the map. These would be connected to the Arduino GPS Shield which already has the alarm connected so that the map can be synchronized with the GPS module and the location can be traced on the frontend (map) which is monitored on the computer. This system shows the implementation of tracking the bags which are either lost or stolen using IoT. Certain procedures and techniques have been made and proposed in order to achieve the same. In these maps have been created in order to track the location of the bags which are misplaced and lost. It concludes that the bags can be easily tracked based upon the hardware installed in them and then by tracking that hardware and tracking the route, directions, and location of the bag with the help of a map.
B. Smart Luggage System IoT Project [2]
The main idea of the Smart Luggage System IoT Project is to develop luggage that could be user-friendly. The project is more of a luggage less of a robot. Thinking of luggage that conveys its weight, tracks its location, which follows the user automatically or manually, by the touch of the present technology to the old baggage it may bring out its true potential. There are a lot of applications to the luggage but all of them are not controlled by the luggage, instead, the commands are sent from the mobile phone to the luggage via Machine to machine communication. The mobile phone has a pre-installed application software with a pre-installed set of instructions. wait for the user to send the commands. After the microcontroller embedded inside the luggage receives instruction from the user it acts accordingly. This can either be for tracking its location and sending it to the user or sending the luggage weight. This has motivated the project all along so that it is user-friendly and could be operated by a Smartphone. The application should be more dynamic and it should show the live feed of the movement of the luggage which updates every time the luggage is in movement. The tracking could be taken online using cloud technology. The limitations of the traditional luggage will be overcome with Smart Luggage.
C. Baggage Tracing and Handling System using RFID and IoT for Airports [3]
The aviation industry is one of the areas which have a strong potential to benefit from Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The most common loopholes experienced in the Aviation industry for Baggage Handling are mislaid baggage, lost baggage, and damage to belongings. So for providing a better and secure system to the passengers, we have proposed a design of a baggage tracing and handling system using smart RFID tags and IoT which is based on cloud servers. We have designed a prototype at two locations having both check-in and check-out processes. A more secure algorithm is used for generating tags that are attached to printed luggage labels with the details of passenger and airline stored in it. RFID readers in the check-out areas facilitate step tracking of baggage which prevents baggage loss. The baggage’s real-time position is tracked and stored in a cloud using IoT and unique ID can be retrieved by the passengers wherever and whenever necessary. The same ID can be used while collecting bags at check-out counters. The system ensures less consumption of time, security for baggage, and is economical hence provides customer satisfaction.
D. Luggage Security Alarm using IC UM3561 [4]
The authors realized, when we travel by train we are always skeptical about the theft of our luggage and find ways and means to secure our luggage, many times unsuccessfully. They were looking at a simple and more efficient way of doing the same. The paper proposed a luggage security alarm with the help of musical tones IC 3561 which is powered with 1.5×2 V batteries and hence is very portable. The moment the lock/loop is broken, the IC generates an alarm either a police siren, fire engine siren, machine-gun sound, or an ambulance alarm thus notifying the owner about the theft of his luggage, hence alarming the owner about the theft. We found that this kind of project should be backed by IoT for tracing purposes, as the user should get the live location of the baggage for recovering stolen or lost luggage.
E. Smart Luggage Tracking and Alert System using Arduino[5]
“Luggage Tracking System Using IoT” deals with luggage tracking systems designed to identify the luggage which gets misplaced from the public and other areas. When people travel, there is always a risk of theft of the luggage and bags which is where the proposed system comes into account. The luggage tracking system works on an alarming basis where an alarm is set up with the Arduino Uno board and a GPS module. Also, the alarm is turned on as soon as the bag is stolen and goes outside a particular range. Finally, a map is created through which we can track the location of the bag In this, the IoT components are being used like Arduino Board and a GPS Module to track the bag and a frontend or mobile application is created to monitor
F. An Interactive GPS And RFID Based Receptacle [6]
Global Positioning System (GPS), Global System Mobile Communication (GSM), and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) are some successful technologies implemented for luggage tracking, locking, and unlocking systems. This paper examines the use of location tracking and safety systems for suitcases that communicate with GPS, GSM, and RFID. When the owner wants to open the suitcase, he can use the RFID tag to lock and unlock. If the suitcase is lost and anyone attempts to open the lock, an alert message will be sent to the mobile phone of the owner. If the user cannot open the lock, use a GPS modem to send a message to the user’s mobile suitcase/bag location. The suitcase’s zip is made of steel so that it cannot be broken or cut with a knife.
3. Design
- The Luggage is first secured with the system.
- In case the luggage is stolen at any point in time, the loop with the system breaks.
- This results in turning on the buzzer, which alerts the user.
- A phone call is also placed on the number specified by the user.
- The status of the system can also be checked on a mobile device by connecting to the system via Bluetooth.
4. Working
- The Proposed system consists of an and gate (Ic 7408), a wire loop, push-button, bc547 transistor, relay switch, resistors, ceramic capacitor, led, buzzer, Arduino Uno, gsm module, & Bluetooth module.
- When the loop breaks, the logic gate gets low input, which gives a low input to the transistor.
- This triggers the relay switch, the relay switch gets connected to the buzzer and turns the buzzer on.
- The Arduino senses the analog input voltage, once it becomes high, it executes the calling program.
- The Bluetooth module is used by the user to see the current status of the luggage.
5. Result & Simulation
- When luggage is safe
When the luggage is secured with the system, the relay switch is triggered towards the default terminal. Due to this the green led glows & the Arduino gives an output,” Luggage is safe”. the user can also see this output by connecting via Bluetooth.
- When luggage is stolen
When the luggage is stolen or the loop breaks, the relay switch is triggered towards the other terminal. Due to this, the red led & the buzzer turns on. The Arduino senses the change and places a voice call to the specified number and also gives an output, “ luggage is stolen”. the user can also see this output by connecting via Bluetooth.
6. Conclusion of Luggage Security Alarm using IoT
By performing this experiment we found that many circuits used in today’s time are inefficient and can be easily simplified by a better understanding of the working of the circuit. We firstly designed a basic loop circuit that gave us the required output. After this, we made the connection of the system using Arduino Uno, which gave us connectivity to different devices. The circuit designed is a very low-cost security circuit and can easily be compacted into a smaller size, which gives an advantage for mass production.
7. Future Scope of Luggage Security Alarm using IoT
This article shows the implementation of sensing the bags which are either lost or stolen using IoT. Certain procedures and techniques have been made and proposed in order to achieve the same. Experimentation has been done and gsm is used in order to place calls in case the bags are misplaced and lost. Experiment results further conclude that the bags can be easily tracked based upon the hardware installed in them and then by tracking that hardware and tracking the route, directions, and location of the bag with the help of a map. GPS modules can be used by which we can get the exact location with coordinates of the incident place, As theft activities are increasing so it’s necessary to have such an anti-theft device with us. The Arduino used can also be replaced with a simpler microprocessor which can give the same results which can be useful for mass production and decreasing the overall size & price of the device.
