Think And Grow Rich: Lessons Learnt!

Think And Grow Rich was written by Napolean Hill in the year 1937 and promoted as a personal development and a self improvement book.

“One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.” — Napoleon Hill

The major lessons that we have learnt after reading this book are:

Being stable while maintaining consistency is very important for the accomplishment of goals. An analysis of 25.000 life stories that failed to achieve professional success pointed at a lack of determination as to the main reason.

Sometimes even stubbornness is useful. A determined attitude is very important for the establishment of long term success.

Positive emotions

To accomplish positive outcomes, we have to think positively or “feed” positive things to our subconscious mind. Increase positive impulses such as love and enthusiasm.

Stay in an environment that is filled with positive vibes. A person gets after with the company he keeps. So, Being with people that have some goals in life and are blessing to your life is important.

Have faith

The author emphasizes how every big historic achievement depended on faith. Faith is what leads people to start in the first place. If they hadn’t faith, new continents wouldn’t be discovered.

Gandhi wouldn’t have defeated British colonialism in a peaceful manner, and Edison wouldn’t have invented electric light. Have unwavering faith that you can accomplish your goals.

Goals and planning

To accomplish your goals, you have to have concrete goals and plans. You need goals because otherwise, you don’t have a direction to move in. You need plans because otherwise, you wouldn’t know what concrete actions to take which will take you to your goals.

The first step is to write down your goals and your plan of achieving them. Writing down something forces you to think so that you can clearly define it. Then put your notes somewhere where you see it every day. Read it every morning and night.

Desire/Passion is crucial if you want to accomplish your dreams. Thomas Edison went through years, and over 10.000 failed experiments before he invented the working light bulb.

Many great writers first face innumerable rejections before they have a breakthrough. Fannie Hurst had to suffer 36 rejections before she could publish a story in a newspaper. So, the first question to ask is, are our desires strong enough

Imagination can prove handy if used for the right purpose instead of just using it for one’s entertainment. Creative imagination is the kind that comes in useful when you want to become successful.

In other words, synthetic imagination is caused by the effects around us and creative imagination becomes the cause of the effects around us. When you use creative imagination to visualize and picture the fruits of your desires as a reality, they soon take form and in fact.

The type of decision Hill talks about in his book are firm and resolute decisions, instead of the ones that are formed and forgotten about in an instant.

People who keep forming and changing their decisions are barely ever able to achieve what they desire. You need to believe strongly in your decisions to the extent that once you have taken a decision, it becomes concrete and must be followed through.

However, this doesn’t mean a decision cannot be changed. However, a decision that is changed regularly is not much of a decision. Take strong and well-thought-out decisions and then see them through to the end.

This is a beautiful book “Think and Grow Rich” written by author Napoleon Hill. Think and Grow Rich is the all-time bestseller in its field, having sold 15 million copies worldwide, and sets the standard for today’s motivational thinking.
