Till now the company has laid-off 600+ employees from Mumbai, India office and there is no further clarification given to how the taxi operations will resume after the pandemic.

The Company officials said that they are determined to provide a high quality and safe service to its user’s around the country.
This shutdown comes after uber announced downsizing of its employees worldwide which affected around 6,700+ employees world-wide in which 600+ are from India. The downsizing is across segments, including customer and driver support, business development, legal, finance, policy, and marketing verticals.
Apart from downsizing of employees, uber has also started downsizing its property and related rental and lease expenses, as part of its global downsizing process.
Uber’s chief executive officer Dara Khosrowshahi said in a recent conference call that the firm has already planned expenditure cutbacks worth 1 billion USD due to disruptions caused by covid-19 pandemic.
Uber Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US said in May, the company has committed to pay up to 145 million USD worldwide to employees.
In January 2020, it also sold its food delivery business Uber Eats to Zomato. The deal also included UberEats taking a 10% stake in Zomato. Uber also exited at least eight food delivery markets worldwide in the past few quarters as the company looks to turn profitable by end of FY21.
